"VLAN with intelligent switch configuration"

(16.02.2019)

Salom Argonauts!

Today I should show you how to config VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) on the intelligent switch.
I will use two HewlettPackardEnterprise OfficeConnect 1820 (J9981A) switches and one ZyXel GS-2024 switch.

Prehistory:

I have become work to make personal VLAN connection for a phone line in the office,
before I don't have worked with switches and as a system administrator.
For this project I have spent on these 3-4 days!
One day I was eight hours in the server room and it was terrible!
The first hour it was ok but after I was like in the fridge.
Next day I was sick.
And by my inexperience have pair times turned off the internet in all office.)

The Plan was that we have two switches which have isolated network Vlan2.
Default main vlan have the name vlan1.

Ports 1 and 2 on the switches must be reserved for Vlan2, all another stay by Vlan1
And still ports 48 and 52 must be tagged as Ports 1 and 2 output.
Change configuration is possible with apps like PuTTy or TeraTerm and with Web-interface because this switches are intelligent.)

ZyXel:
I have started with ZyXel.
ZyXel switch is a switch which connected to our Firewall and Server.
This switch work with DHCProtocol, wich work in the shared network of switches
and redirect rights IP's to switch's Web-Interfaces.
To connect to ZyXel and config him, you need to connect to him through the console port connector with VGA cable.
After we need to use system console.
But before it must check the USB-to-Serial Comm Port(COM5) Properties.

Common problem with COM Ports driver is an error 10(This device cannot start.)
To fix it I have installed new driver from here.

If all properties are right we can open terminal emulator like Putty or Tera Term.
I have used Tera Term. All images after are with Tera Term.
As you open emulator you must choose serial connection type.

If you can't choose COM5 check your USB connection to console.

In Tera Term you can see just a black screen:

Press Enter.
It must coming a password entry field.
Default password by ZyXel switch is "1234"
And if you first times coming you need entry a Username : "admin".

After this you came on switch console interface.
Because you need to config this switch entry "config".
Now you need to connect to vlan, default we have default vlan1.
To coming to vlan1 config just entry "vlan name"(vlan 1)
Next you must connect to switch's IP and Subnet mask.
It looks like this: "IP address 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0".

And you are welcome! You can use ZyXel switch Web-Interface.

HP:
By the HPe 1820 switch, you need first to change your Internet Protocol IPv4 settings in Local Area Connection Properties.
(remember your current settings to be able to restore them later.)

To IP enter switch default IP.(192.168.2.12)
And Subnet mask(255.255.255.0).
Click "OK"

Now you can come to switch Web-Interface,
I advised you to use Microsoft Edge. First I have used Chrome but something wasn't working.
Default *Username = "admin"* and default *password = <blank>*.

Don't forget to change your default username and password on switches,
because it would be too easy to hack you,
for example with Shodan.)

Inside we can see our System Information and Network Details
here you need to change Protocol type to DHCP.

To configure VLAN on HP switch must to go to Vlan Configuration.
Initially here is just one VLAN - vlan1,
to create a new one you need simply click on Add and give name for your new vlan.
On the end it must be like this for vlan1 and vlan2.

In conclusion:
Procontra is an older switch as HP 1820.
Therefore working with HP 1820 after older switches were amazing!
And because this case doesn't actually, I have found just one tutorial and on Chinese!
Expect these two switches I tried to use HP J9803A switch but web-interface was not available because of java version.
I have tried same on Windows 7 and 10 but it doesn't give me a result.(
After this, we have bought two HP 1820 switches.
And how you know, it was done!

Tip:
I have much-used manuals.
If you have some don't throw away! Future it should help you.
